Love art and technology? Interested in virtual reality? We’ve invited one of the world’s most pioneering digital artists to share their story with you this October…

The Double Negative are joining forces with two of Liverpool’s digital and tech networks, kin2kin and Creative Kitchen, for a very special, virtual reality-themed social next month in the city’s Baltic Triangle.

Aimed at Liverpool’s creative business community, this event will see Marshmallow Laser Feast (London) co-founder Barney Steel talk to us about his creative approach when working with arts venues and global brands — from inception to realisation. Fresh from headlining this year’s Abandon Normal Devices (AND) Festival (18-20 Sept) with their stunning interactive artwork In The Eyes of the Animal, Steel will be discussing Marshmallow Laser Feast’s innovative use of 3D scanning and drones, alongside their wide-ranging client work: including Volkswagen UK (showcasing the car’s hidden assistance systems), Sony (Real-time Projection Mapping) and U2 (‘Invisible’ Super Bowl promo).

Steel will also be joined by Starship Group (Liverpool), who will be giving a unique practical demonstration of their new social, mobile, virtual reality platform vTime, ahead of its official launch in November 2015. Using only a smartphone and a VR headset, cross-platform network vTime allows users to meet and interact with people around the globe. Networking with friends or alone, users are able to enjoy music, and share images, videos, and spherical media in rich virtual environments.

Our Marshmallow Laser Feast social will be held at Baltic Triangle-based multi-arts space Constellations (which was this year shortlisted for the RIBA North West Awards), and it will be followed by complimentary drinks and food. We welcome any arts professionals, creative freelancers or businesses looking to expand their VR knowledge and to connect with Liverpool’s wider creative, digital and tech communities. There’s no doubt that this will be a popular event – so book early to avoid disappointment!
