Film Podcast #21: Bullhead by The Double Negative on Mixcloud

DW Mault reviews Michaël R. Roskam’s Belgium crime drama Bullhead, and Hirokazu Koreeda’s Japanese coming-of-age drama, I Wish.

In Bullhead, a young Limburg cattle farmer Jacky Vanmarsenille (played by Matthias Schoenaerts) is approached by a dodgy veterinarian to make a deal with a notorious West-Flemish beef trader. Cue the assassination of a federal policeman, and an unexpected confrontation with a secret from Jacky’s past, both setting in motion a chain of events with far-reaching, tragic consequences.

I Wish follows 12-year-old Koichi, who has been separated from his brother Ryunosuke (played by real life brothers Koki and Ohshirô Maeda) since their parents’ divorce. Koichi believes that the new bullet train service will create a miracle when the first trains pass each other at top speed.

Hosted by director and cineaste DW Mault, with special guest writer and blogger Amy Roberts.
