Luke Healey

Profession: PhD Candidate, Art History & Visual Studies, University of Manchester.

Tell us about youI grew up in Preston, where my number one childhood obsession was football. Contemporary art became a big part of my life at the age of about 15. After 2007 I completed Undergraduate and Masters degrees in Art History at the University of Edinburgh, and now find myself in Manchester writing a PhD thesis on… football.

What inspires you? I’d wager that nothing has had a bigger impact on my writing than the way Roland Barthes writes about the everyday in his book Mythologies.

What would your superpower be? I’m very much the thwarted musician/filmmaker/successful sportsperson so anything that could help me instantly become proficient in all those fields would be good.

Favourite local hangout? The Beagle, a specialist beer place just down the road from where I live in Chorlton-Cum-Hardy.

Tell us a secret. Sometimes when I’m alone in the flat I charge about acting out celebrations for goals I’ve just scored in my head.
