Lee Ashworth

Profession: Teacher. Writer. Artist.

Tell us about you:

I am currently working on a collection of short stories and writing about film for The Double Negative. I am also the co-creator of The Manchester Art Authority, former film reviews editor and music reviewer for Louder Than War. I contributed to Film Inquiry and have undertaken commissions as a copywriter for record labels. Teacher by day.

What inspires you?

The city, Herzog, travel, music, the enthusiasm focus and achievements of others, fresh new contemporary narratives, Miranda July, Teju Cole, Josef Minta, existentialist cinema.

What do you love about where you live?

Coming from North Wales, Manchester is now even more the place I hoped it would be, 27 years later. It’s not pretty but it’s a cultural nexus, a constantly evolving web of people, ideas and places often intractable from each other. In Manchester you cannot step into the same city twice. It is always in the now.

Whats your favourite local hangout?

HOME, Manchester

What would your superpower be?

Sleeping for longer… without sleeping for longer.

Tell us a secret.

I always check the bed for spiders.
