Joe Fenn

Profession: Chef, barman, and blogger.

Tell us about you: Philosopher by training; chef by profession; reader and writer by passion. Salfordian by birth, I am based in Manchester and the North but have lived and worked in Cardiff, New Zealand, and Amsterdam.

What inspires you? The wonderful, terrible, and engrossing stories found throughout real human life, particularly as told in the great non-fiction narratives of Jon Krakauer, Hunter S. Thompson, Truman Capote, and more.

What do you love about where you live? A city plenty big enough but with the sense of community and conscious identity usually associated with smaller towns, giving a real feeling of belonging and homeliness.

What’s your favourite local hangout? Castlefields – beautiful boomtime Victorian architecture captures the city’s identity perfectly and spectacularly.

What would your superpower be? To be able to stop time. Kinda like Bernard in Bernard’s Watch.

Tell us a secret. I have three kidneys.
