Continuing our series overseen by Craig Oldham, Studio Build’s Michael C. Place selects his Pro Picks of 2020′s design graduates…

Ella Flood, Norwich University of the Arts

Really enjoyed Ella’s work, it has a breezy confidence that for some takes a lot longer to master. Illustration and typography work beautifully together making the whole project really strong. The colour palette exudes seaside charm, great copy too. All those elements combine to make for a well rounded strong package. In today’s climate (or any tbh) a multi-skilled graduate like Ella would make a very good hire.

Jasmine Forbes

I’m a sucker for typography. Jasmine’s ‘found typography’ for the publication, A Journey Through Space and Time, really stood out. The almost painterly approach to type is really beautiful. It’s nice to see type and typography approached from a different viewpoint.

Keaton Powell, Leeds Beckett University

Leeds! Leeds! Leeds!

Keaton’s Hyde Park Picture House branding project for me struck just the right balance of historical context paired with a modern approach/application. If I were to see that on the streets of Leeds it would certainly make me look. The pared-back palette is strong; image treatments and strong typography make for a wonderful project.
