GRAD SHOWCASE:
Pro Picks – Kat Loudon
In a new series overseen by Craig Oldham, we’re showcasing the best in design from 2020′s graduates, beginning with a selection chosen by Design by Zag founder/Cobolt co-founder, Kat Loudon…
Annie Kobyluch, Glasgow School of Art
Annie’s work is characterised by her use of bold, confident type and playful witty ideas. A standout project for me was her exhibition design for Chindogu, the playful design perfectly articulates the ethos and values of the ‘un-useless’ Japanese movement.
Emma Harvey, Glasgow School of Art
Emma’s editorial design for InPractice drew me in with its no-nonsense approach to graphic design academia. The journal bridges the gap between graphic design academic theory and practical design principles. The minimal punchy design cuts through the usual visual connotations of theoretical studies making the journal an easy and enjoyable read.
Megan Freeman, Falmouth University
As I am the daughter of two pharmacists, pharmaceutical design has always fascinated me. Megan’s project ‘Read the Small Print’ is a typographically driven body of work investigating the impact of the contraceptive pill on women’s bodies and minds. It is estimated that two million women take the pill in England and Wales, so these thought-provoking outcomes spark the much-needed discussion around the side effects that affect so many of us.
Kat Loudon
Kat Loudon is the founder of design studio, Design by Zag, and a co-founder of Cobolt, a collective of leading female mural artists, based in Glasgow, Scotland.
