Hinterland

PICK OF THE WEEK: Festival Opening: Hinterland 7.30-9pm @ St Peter’s Seminary, Helensburgh, Scotland — SOLD OUT

The official launch of Scotland’s Festival of Architecture starts with Hinterland; a mysterious public art event held in the dark at the abandoned St Peter’s Seminary… Due to be metamorphosed by projections, light installations, and the sounds of a choir composed by Rory Boyle, the seminary will be resurrected for all to appreciate the conserved 20th-century edifice in all its architectural glory.

Saturday — Exhibition Opening: Baldock, Pope, Zahle 10am-4pm @ Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art, Sunderland — FREE

Sculptors Nicholas Pope, Jonathan Baldock (whose sculptures we last saw at The Royal Standard Gallery, Liverpool), and Maria Zahle have teamed as a uniquely diverse trio, spanning across three generations, to portray their generational differences and similarities through art across a range of different handmade forms. Expect glass blowing, sculptures, textiles and drawing; rich with colour and contrast, the exhibition will open up a dialogue celebrating the wild variation of contemporary art.
