Monday – Workshop: Reclaiming The Curatorial @ Cubitt Gallery, London — £95/ £55 

Interested in honing your curatorial skills? This three day intensive workshop will provide all of the inspiration and information you could need to start and develop your own alternative form of curatorial practice. Led by artist-run initiative Cubitt Studios, practicing artists and curators will be sharing their bags of knowledge and professional words of wisdom through a series of talks, seminars, tours and participatory activities to help get you started.

Tuesday – Exhibition Opening: Picasso On Paper 10-5pm @ Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool – FREE

Featuring a newly acquired drawing from one of Spain’s most famous artists, Study for Temptation of St Anthony, this small display glimpses the working mind of Picasso through intricate drawing. Showing along this artwork (once owned by Lucian Freud) will be artist Enrique Garrán whose work demonstrates the unparalleled influence one of the 20th century’s greatest artists has had on his work.

Before heading off on the summer festival rounds, Ivor Novello Award-winning band Bombay Bicycle Club will be playing a special warm up gig in Liverpool tonight, bringing with them a three album back catalogue to draw from. Expect euphoric, upbeat indie that you can’t help dancing to.

After two years of investigation into natural phenomena and our complex relationship with the environment, Marc Quinn returns to White Cube Gallery after five years with two brand new bodies of work. Not content to work within one creative medium, Quinn presents sculptures and paintings that capture the primordial, mysterious and powerful aspects of the sea.

Thursday – Think Cinema Presents Alice In The Cities (1974) 6.30-9.30pm @ A Small Cinema, Liverpool – £3

The first of Director Wim Wenders Road Trip Trilogy, we follow nine-year old Alice and a German writer, Phillip Winter, as the pair embarks upon a search to find the young girl’s grandparents. Set during a post war society, we delve into a whimsical journey of loss and longing that tackles intergenerational relationships, consumerist culture and the complexities of human nature.

Dogville is perhaps one of Director Lars von Trier’s most exhilarating works to date. Set in Depression-era America, we follow the story of a woman (Nicole Kidman) who flees to the mountainous town of Dogville in her desperate attempt to escape violent mobsters, leading to dramatic — and in typical Von Trier style — unsettling events.

Saturday – Exhibition Opening: Resource 10-6pm @ The Bluecoat, Liverpool – FREE

Using The Bluecoat’s manifesto – ‘ Founded for… the diffusion of useful knowledge’— as a direct influence, Resource is a group show showcasing work from artists including Clay Arlington, Jack Brindley, Ben Cain, Maurice Carlin, Daniel Eatock and Sean Edwards. Here, new artworks will subvert and suggest the gallery’s ethos, whilst opening up the everyday life of The Bluecoat to the public.

Photography Walk With The Royal Institute Of British Architects (RIBA) 2pm @ Open Eye Gallery, Liverpool – £20-£15

Shaped by shipping and commerce, the streets, public spaces and buildings of Liverpool have long established themselves as some of the most iconic in the North-West and UK. Using the spontaneous photographic medium of Lomography, join RIBA North West for a unique opportunity to tour and capture the architectural landscape of Liverpool whilst getting creative with multiple exposures and cross-processing techniques.
