Hey It’s Christmas! Here’s A Cat.

Merry Christmas!
We sign off for the holidays and look back on two years of awesome…

We are amazed to say that The Double Negative is two years old this Christmas — Mike and I launched TDN in December 2011 as a way to express what we loved in the arts, and to champion and analyse what was flying under the radar in Liverpool. We wanted to bring the outside in: be based in a small city, whilst looking ambitiously at everything and anything globally that inspired us or made us think critically.

And what a fantastic time we’ve had. We’ve interviewed Alan Yentob, Mark Kermode, Marcus Coates and Rankin (and been interviewed by Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music), wrote and published a book, worked with Miranda Sawyer, The Bluecoat, Liverpool John Moores University, University of Liverpool, ACME Merseyside, Liverpool Biennial, Tate, Creative Tourist, Corridor 8…

Mike, myself and our contributing writers have also used TDN as a launchpad to expand our portfolios; we were published in the Guardian, the Times, Aesthetica Magazine, The Skinny, Creative Tourist and Garageland Magazine, amongst many other print and online platforms.

So what does 2014 bring? Simply, a dedication to bringing you the best arts criticism and artist features. We are going to be a little more ambitious, a little more fearless and thought-provoking, and work a bit further afield. We’ve planned some exciting collaborations with Mubi.com, Edge Hill University and FACT Liverpool, as well as major developments in how we work as a platform and support network for emerging, talented arts critics.

Without you, dear reader, it wouldn’t be possible. So thank you. We wish you and your family a very Merry Christmas and a wonderful New Year; here’s to an even more fantastic 2014.

See you in next year!

Much love, as always, from Co-Founders Laura Robertson and Mike Pinnington xxx
