Film Podcast #24: A Liar’s Autobiography: The Untrue Story of Monty Python’s Graham Chapman by The Double Negative on Mixcloud

DW Mault reviews this ‘factually incorrect’ animated biography of Graham Arthur Chapman, one of the founding members of Monty Python’s Flying Circus.

Graham Chapman (who died in 1989) writes and stars in the animated film of his own life story, A Liar’s Autobiography. By Directors Bill Jones, Jeff Simpson and Ben Timlett, using Chapman’s own voice recordings, this is his non-linear take on a surreal life, from Footlights at Cambridge, to Monty Python, to a self-hating LA celebrity lifestyle, taking in the struggles with addictions and sexuality along the way.

“The film’s depiction of the ugliness and strangeness of his self-hating LA celeb lifestyle is disturbing. Not just for Python fans” – The Guardian

Hosted by director and cineaste DW Mault with special guests, comedian and actor, Mick Colligan, and writer, journalist and producer, Laura Brown.

Screening tomorrow at FACT cinema 6pm
