Uniform nominated for top design prize 

Liverpool-based agency Uniform has been nominated in the digital category for the Design Museum’s Designs of the Year 2013. Their innovative Postcard Player, which uses postcards printed with conductive ink to play tracks, emulates the feeling of holding a record sleeve, but uses digital music technology. All the nominations will be on display at the Designs of the Year exhibition at the Design Museum from 20th March 2013.

HMV, Jessops and Blockbusters all go into administration

Britain’s high-streets took another blow this week as three major chains went under. Music superstore HMV, photography retailer Jessops and video rental business Blockbusters were all responsible for hundreds of stores and thousands of staff. The popularity and convenience of downloading, large supermarket chains offering cheaper options, and big business debt have all been blamed for their failure.

New BBC Production Talent Pool Call Out

Looking for a career in the media? The BBC are again looking for talented, creative and well organised people who are committed to a future in TV, Radio or Online production. The Production Talent Pool will be open for applications in late February and will offer short term, paid entry-level work on a wide range of BBC programmes and productions, such as the Chris Evans Breakfast Show, EastEnders or Strictly Come Dancing.

All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival share their Spring/Summer line-ups

More artists have been added to ATP‘s 2013 festivals in Potins, Camber Sands. Weekend One, which will be curated by TV On The Radio in May, has added De La Soul, DOOM, Dark Dark Dark, Lone Wolf & Cub, and Shabazz Palaces to its line-up. Weekend Two, curated by Deerhunter in June, have Tom Tom Club, The Breeders, William Basinski and Rhys Chatham, who opened Liverpool Biennial last September.

Ted X Liverpool announce full line up

The Gadget Show host Jason Bradbury, Saatchi & Saatchi Ex Vice Chairman Graham Thomas, Pam Warhurst (CBE) of the Forestry Commission and primate biologist Professor Serge Wich will all headline the third TEDxLiverpool. Hosted at LJMU Art and Design Academy on Thursday 7th February, this year’s speakers will be tackling the theme of Journeys.

New Graphic Design Event for Manchester

A new exhibition and creative event has been announced featuring five of Barcelona’s best design and creative agencies. BCN MCR, which is curated by graphic designer Dave Sedgwick (whose clients include Lee Cooper, Onitsuka Tiger and Manchester Craft & Design Centre), will host events in Northern Quarter creative space 2022NQ and Icelandic coffee house TAKK. Lo Siento, Mayuscula Brands, Hey Studio, Lamosca and Mucho are amongst the Spanish design agencies featured.

Liverpool Art Prize 2013 nominations announced

Three of The Double Negative’s contributing artists have been nominated for this year’s Liverpool Art Prize. The contemporary art award, which was inspired by the Turner Prize and began in 2008, will be judged by Biennial Artistic Director Sally Tallant and Arts Editor at Liverpool Daily Post Laura Davis. TDN Artists of the Month Michael Lacey, Hannah Bitowski and Jason Wood are amongst those nominated. The shortlisted artists will be announced Friday 8th February.
