Film Podcast #17: Top Ten Films of 2012 by The Double Negative on Mixcloud

With the Golden Globe winners just having been revealed, and the Baftas and Oscars yet to come, we look at our own top films of 2012. Which films should be winning awards this season?

Films on the Top Ten Countdown:

Bobcat Goldthwait’s God Bless America (starring Bill Murray’s brother Joel), where terminally ill Frank joins up with a 16-year-old called Roxy, on a mission to rid society of its most repellent citizens.

Andrew Dominik’s Killing Them Softly (starring Brad Pitt and Ray Liotta), about an enforcer hired to restore order after three idiots rob a Mob protected card game, causing the local criminal economy to collapse.

Béla Tarr’s The Turin Horse (his last film, made from only around thirty shots), a philosophical and bleak insight into a rural farmer confronting the mortality of his faithful horse.

Giorgos Lanthimos’ Alps, where a group of people start a business impersonating the recently deceased in order to help their clients through the grieving process.

Michael Haneke’s Amour (starring screen legends Jean-Louis Trintignant and Emmanuelle Riva), peering at elderly couple Georges and Anne, and the effect Anne’s stroke and oncoming dementia has on their lives.

But who will take the number one slot?

Hosted by director and cineaste DW Mault with special guests, writer, blogger and musician Amy Roberts, and writer and cineaste Matthew Fox.
