Film Podcast #16: Life of Pi by The Double Negative on Mixcloud

DW Mault reviews Ang Lee’s adventure drama Life of Pi.

Based on the best-selling novel by Yann Martel, and from the director of Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and Brokeback Mountain, the story focuses on Pi Patel, the precocious son of a zoo-keeper. Deciding to move the family from India to Canada, the ship they sail out on is shipwrecked. Pi finds himself alone, adrift in the Pacific Ocean on a 26-foot lifeboat, with a zebra, a hyena, an orangutan and a 450-pound Bengal tiger for company. A fight for survival begins.

“This is grand adventure on an epic scale” – Phillip French, The Guardian

Also discussed: The Impossible, Silver Linings Playbook, the Golden Globes (including nominations for Terence Davies’ The Deep Blue Sea), Christmas films and The Queen of Versailles.

Hosted by director and cineaste DW Mault with special guests, writer, blogger and musician Amy Roberts, Liverpool Post writer Laura Brown, and cineaste Charanjeet Birdie. Podcast kindly recorded by Ged Hunter and Mick Colligan.
