Film Podcast #11: Argo, The Sapphires and Grassroots

DW Mault reviews Ben Affleck’s historical drama Argo, Wayne Blair’s musical comedy The Sapphires and Stephen Gyllenhaal’s comedy Grassroots.

In Argo, a 1980 joint CIA-Canadian secret operation attempts to rescue six fugitive American diplomatic staff out of revolutionary Iran. In The Sapphires, four Australian Aboriginal girls learn about love, friendship and war when their all girl group entertain US troops in Vietnam. In Grassroots, a journalist (after losing his job) reluctantly agrees to help his deranged friend in his efforts to earn a seat on the Seattle City Council.
