Playlist #24: Happy Hallowe’en

Hallowe’en – far too commercialised these days, eh? Console yourself with a playlist very much in the spirit of things…

It’s that time again, when even more sirens can be heard outside of twitching curtains and blinds, and the snot-nosed intimidating kids are out in even greater numbers than usual. No, we don’t mean the weekend.

It is of course All Hallows Eve tonight, a Western Christian tradition which, like so many others is derived from pagan ritual. In that spirit, we couldn’t resist presenting you with a playlist more than fit for purpose.

So, if you can’t face the miserable weather out there to catch the many options on offer, or if like us you forgot entirely that The Shining is getting an airing at FACT this evening (D’oh!), then what better way to plan some creepy late night viewing than with a bespoke playlist?

Settle back and be lulled into no false sense of security at all by the likes of Bauhaus, Alice Cooper, and perhaps our personal fave, Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ particularly chilling rendition of I Put a Spell On You. If you don’t have nightmares, you didn’t try hard enough…!
