Monday — Borrowed Time Screening 6.30-7.45pm @ Jerwood Visual Arts, London — FREE (Booking Required)
In response to the Jerwood/FVU Awards 2016 exhibition, Borrowed Time, tonight’s screening of short films includes artists such as Sam Williams and Suki Chan respondiong to the curatorial theme — that our fragile social and economic systems are living on “borrowed time”.
Tuesday — Freedom Requires Free People: Film Screening 6-7pm @ The Bluecoat, Liverpool — FREE (Booking Required)
Part of The Royal Standard’s events programme for Playing By The Rules, Ane Hjort Guttu’s 2011 film Freedom Requires Free People is centred around an eight-year-old Norwegian boy as he jumps through the hoops of the education system. Criticising the one-size-fits-all mantra of primary school education, a talk will be held after to engage the audience in a wider societal discussion of the themes presented in Guttu’s work.
Wednesday — Exhibition Opening: Joe Fletcher Orr / Mummy’s Boy 12-5pm @ The International 3, Salford — FREE
Are you a mummy’s boy? Joe Fletcher Orr sets to find out in his second solo exhibition, displaying items of sentimental value (pictured, above): from the shade of paint Orr’s mother once picked out at B&Q, to the plant pots Orr made with his mum at a pottery class. Accompanied by a commissioned text from the editor of ArtReview, Oliver Basciano, Orr truly explores the strange and ever-evolving relationship between men and their mothers.
Zining Day: How It Feels When I’m Included… 1-4pm @ Tate Liverpool — FREE
Ever fancied making a zine? Join Art Gym and the University of Leeds as they explore inclusion in contemporary art through the magazine-making process. In an age where exclusion is rife within art circles, mentors from the University want to embrace the citizens of Liverpool and encourage artistic involvement of people from all ages and walks of life — hereby inviting you to drop-in and make a page for the collaborative zine.
PICK OF THE WEEK: Thursday — Speed Meet The Liverpool Biennial Associate Artists 6.30pm @ The Bluecoat, Liverpool — FREE (Booking Required)
Speed Meet the 11 lucky artists selected for Liverpool Biennial’s brand new Associate Artist programme this Thursday — think speed dating for art fans. Each artist from the selection of established Northerners — outlined here in Jack Welsh’s feature, including Simeon Barclay (pictured, above) and Nina Chua – will present their work in casual talks to only a small audience at a time. If you want to get to know your local artists on a personal level in preparation for the Liverpool Biennial 2016 then be sure not to miss this.

Muk-ja! To celebrate the launch of Static Gallery Bar’s KIMCHI Human range (a side dish made with fermented organic vegetables), join friends and fellow kimchi lovers for an introduction to Korean hotpot (vegan), plus Korea’s most popular rice-based liqueur, Soju (bar will be open for other drinks, too).
Friday – Exhibition Opening: Putting On The Glitz 10am-5pm @ Sudley House, Liverpool — FREE
Hollywood glamour takes centre stage at this new exhibition in Liverpool’s Sudley House. A detailed look at the historical significance of women’s fashion in the 1930s, expect a merge of history, art and fashion, making for a charming reflection of the Golden Age.
Saturday — Summer. Autumn. Winter. Spring. 2pm @ HOME, Manchester — £5-25
The world premiere of theatre company Quarantine’s masterpiece at HOME (pictured, above), this quartet is orchestrated to express the human experience spanning through the seasons, starring ordinary people instead of actors. Each season works as a standalone piece, or you can spend the afternoon watching the entire seven-hour event to witness in full the mass portraiture.
